Peach Margaritas | Cocktails

A twist on the classic margarita, featuring tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice and peach nectar.
For some reason, I've had a real obsession with peach nectar in cocktails lately. It's just such a lovely addition. Maybe it’s that things are warming up down here in Texas, peaches are coming into season and the flavor is so perfectly fitting for the upcoming summer months, or maybe it's that it has enough flavor and acidity to cover up the burn of alcohol, without taking over and masking it completely.
I love it in place of orange juice in a mimosa, I love it mixed in with a little vodka, amaretto and lemon juice, but my newest, most favorite obsession is as a substitute for the sweet and sour within a margarita.
Ok, so maybe I never use sweet and sour for my margaritas, namely because it’s disgusting and pungent, and it makes my heart burn for a solid day after consumption. I much prefer the juice of fresh limes, or even a store-bought limeade mixed with a little orange juice in the place of sweet sour. However, in the case of the Peach Margarita, peach nectar mixed with some freshly squeezed lime juice is more than sufficient.
The basics of a classic margarita remain the same: Tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice, we just make it a tad bit more exciting via the introduction of peach liqueur and nectar. The last time we grilled out, we made fajitas and invited over some of our closest friends. It was the perfect opportunity to test out my new favorite cocktail recipe. I whipped up a pitcher of Peach Margaritas, and set out a few festive glasses with a sugar rim. It made my heart sing to hear that I was not the only one obsessed with peach nectar. My margarita had recruited a whole new flock of followers after just one sip.

Tip:
If you can't find peach nectar in the bottle, you can typically find it sold by the can in the juice aisle of your local grocery store.
Ingredients:
6 ounces tequila
3 ounces peach liqueur, such as Mathilde Peach Liqueur
3 ounces orange liqueur, such as Cointreau
2 cups peach nectar
3/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 10 limes)
2 cups frozen peaches
2 limes, thinly sliced (reserve a few for sugar rim, if desired)
1/4 granulated sugar for glass rim, optional
Ice for serving
Method:
In a pitcher combine all of the above ingredients, minus the sugar, and stir. Refrigerate until ice cold.
Have ready four margarita or rocks glasses. If you'd like a sugar rim, place sugar on a plate, fold lime slice over the rim of the glass and run it along the perimeter. Place the glass upside down on the plate and swirl around until a thick sugar coating has formed. Fill with ice, pour over margaritas and enjoy.
Serves 4.
